  1. Is it possible to create a cascading dropdown from an autocomplete entry? If not, why?
  2. I could work my way through this if I could ask the occasional simple question while I'm working on it. ............ But I've said that before. You only need to look at the dates of the two previous posts to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
  3. Ok great. Except for one thing or actually several. Chat never works unless it's during the 4 hours you work. Tech support takes days, especially over the weekend and your sites help section does a great job of telling us how to use the specific features in your ap and how to create a relationship with a drag and drop menu or create a view for filtering or joining tables or any number of other different things but does NOTHING to help us actually use them! 1.) Once I build a view, how the hell do I implement it? There are no examples that make any sense whatsoever unless I want to move into selling real estate!. All I can tell is I'm supposed to be able to view multiple tables information in one report but creating that report escapes me! Do we use a form? a report? How do we configure it to get to where we need to be? Creating a report that involves more than 1 table just doesn't work for me. 2.) What exactly does a table relationship accomplish? Does entering data in one table auto populate the other one? Or does it just refer to it when it needs to? If so, how do you get them to work? Every time I do it, I get weird errors. There are no examples nor is there ANY information on the theory behind how it all comes together. 3.) How do I create a datapage where I can select multiple checkboxes using a lookup table? 4.) How do I grab checkboxes from a table that have been checked while leaving the ones that have not for use in another table? I asked for help, I got a quick synopsis of what I needed to do. GREAT! I need to create a key here to match an auto number there blah blah blah. I, in fact, created the tables just as outlined but STILL cannot actually use them. I have NO IDEA how to configure the datapages to display what I need. There is NO TALK about anything outside of very basic configurations and as soon as you step out of that, your screwed. I might as well be working with flat file databases. At least I could get those to work. The point I am trying to make is this. We need help while we are working on it. We can't stop, wait 2 days for an answer, then pick back up where we left off. We're NOT coders, that's why we are here! If Caspio can't find a way to provide some sort of after hours support, the only thing they will be doing is selling services to lazy coders. Nobody else will be able to use it.
  4. I pay $149 a month to be a member here and to make use of this product. So far, in the last 2 months I have gotten no where. I've deleted my entire project twice and started over. The support here is terrible. Well, I guess I can't really say that because I've never actually been able to work with anyone from Caspio on my project. During the day, my time is completely consumed. The only time I can make to work on my project is in the evenings, sometimes in the wee hours of the morning and the weekends. I would venture to say there are a lot of people like me with the same exact problem. Sitting down at my desk and wrapping my head around what I am trying to accomplish so I can get the help I need is just impossible during the business day. I've even tried using the community forums to get some of my easier questions answered. That doesn't work as the forums are not staffed at all and it's like standing in a train station all by yourself. I have posted and waited days for a response before. Hell, I'm waiting right now. I'm also now finding that some of the problems I am having are due to restrictions built into the project that force you into buying more datapages. Things like being able to edit more than 1 table in a view or create multiple choice checkboxes or even make multiple choices in a list box without creating a bunch of unnecessary javascript workarounds. Might as well be pissing into the wind.....
  5. It seems I'm not the only one seeking multiple selection checkboxes on this site. It also seems like the reasons they don't exist are based on being able to charge a little more to the end user. Not sure if I like that. Having said that, I found some script in here to create multiple checkboxes for a search form. I tried to incorporate it but to no avail. I have a lookup_table with 29 selections. I would like to use checkboxes arranged neatly on the page via html (maybe 5 across, evenly spaced). I would like to draw the labels and content from the lookup_table allowing the user to make multiple selections at once. (maybe sent as a comma separated list to the table, example 'ET, HDCP, MT,' etc. It sure would be easy if multiple checkboxes were possible in Caspio .. (hint, hint) but since they aren't, I need some help getting it to work. Thanks....
  6. Ok, I've tried this all the ways I know how and it just doesn't work. One of the things I noticed is when you try and hide the dropdown box, the box disappears, the virtual1 folder is renamed to virtual 2 (then there is 2) and the entire thing just explodes. I am sure I'm doing something wrong. I am working with a view because I need to access 2 tables. I am having a lot of trouble understanding that concept and I can't seem to get any help (I can only work on my project in the evening and cannot avail myself of caspio's staff during the day.) I have two tables. the first table (dpmc_permits) contains all the permanent vehicle, owner, and assigned permit information. The second table is called (dpmc_changes) and it only contains the temporary vehicle information. The idea being they can change their permanent car with a temporary one for a set amount of time. It is a difficult concept for me to grasp. In this particular parking garage, there is absolutely no guest parking. Having said that, Residents are allowed to let their friends use their parking space as long as their car is removed while the temporary car is there. (thereby not consuming any extra spaces). It is also entirely possible I'm making this too difficult and I should just use one table for all this information. Here is a basic stepped outline of what I'm trying to accomplish. (I know somebody here's gonna go "Why doesn't he just blah blah, then blah" and make me look like an idiot but I'm ok with that. Once you do that, then I'll give you my tow truck and tell you to upright the loaded fuel tanker that's laying on it's side in a snow storm while the rest of us watch, LOL). 1.) Permanent car is registered into garage and assigned a permit. Permit is activated. 2.) Resident gets in accident and car goes to shop. Resident is given a loaner car. 3.) Resident then goes online to register a 'temp vehicle change' on the DPMC website. 4.) Resident logs into their user account then selects temp change form. 5.) Website uses permit ID to confirm permit details (Active, Inactive, Denied, etc) then auto populates first part of form with users details (name, Car info, plate, etc). User may have more than 1 vehicle/permit. 6.) Once the permit ID is confirmed and the permit status is confirmed (Active), the user is allowed to complete the temp change form. 7.) The information is posted to the DB and becomes available to the agents in the garage. 8.) When agent goes through garage, he finds car without a permit. 9.) He then checks that car against the DPMC database by searching the license plate. 10.) Search reveals that vehicle has been registered as a temp vehicle. 11.) Agent then checks to see if original car is also in garage. If both cars are in the garage, the permanent vehicle is impounded and removed. If not, no violation and all is well.... The reason I think I need a second table is to record all the changes. Some of these people do this several times a week and I want to keep all that data for future reporting use. (Watch for abuse, etc) I don't really want to muddy the permit DB with all this extra info. (maybe hundreds of 'changes' assigned to one user over a period of time). If I can get this done, I'm home free and can finish my project. Thanks to everyone ahead of time.
  7. One more question. I have a license plate field as well as a vin field, both with their own needs in the same datapage. I tried adding the script in twice but there appears to be some conflict as i can only get one to work. I even tried changing the function name to no avail. (v_plate to l_plate). What am I doing wrong? Do I need to merge them into one somehow?
  8. I told you I was a newbie. Changed it to 'InsertRecordlic_plate' and it works great. Thank you very much.
  9. I understand how I can use the cascading dropdown to auto populate fields based on the parent drop down. Here is my dilemma. I want to allow the user to use their assigned permit ID number to populate the remaining fields. (year make model and color of the car) if it exists in the permit database. I do not want to use a dropdown as I do not want to display a list of active permit numbers. How would I use a text field as the parent to populate the child boxes below? Also, how would I display an error message (maybe "This permit is not registered in the system. You must use a valid permit number to proceed") if the permit does not exist in the permit table?
  10. Tried using it on my blackberry. displays page but does not create drop down menus. I know blackberry can view them as I have several other sites where the dropdown works fine.
  11. I recently created a copy of one of my datapages in the mobile format. I noticed 2 things You cannot use cascading dropdownsRegular dropdown boxes appear as a list of radio buttons on a wml page I already sa where cascading dropdowns weren't available yet in mobile but how do I solve the problem of the disappearing drop down box?
  12. Doesn't seem to work... I don't even get an error. Would the fact that I have the field set to autocomplete create an issue?
  13. Very nice. Thank you! I'll load it up and report any problems back here. Thanks again...
