PDF Generation

jpowell

Question

We are generating PDFs using Caspio.  So once a datapage is submitted, users can navigate to the reports page see the submitted data.  The user can then click a link that says 'PDF' which maps the data to a custom PDF.  For example, we created a web form using caspio that is an Invoice.  Once a new form is completed and submitted, a user can then navigate to the reports page and download the invoice as a PDF to send to vendors.

Is it possible to automate the generation of the PDF so that we can hit the API and grab both the PDF and data for that submission?  Caspio at first said it was not possible because we do not have access to the server where we could pick up the PDF locally.  However, Caspio then came back and said it was possible (was told this via email) but they never explain how we could accomplish it.

Has any one done this?  Any ideas on how to accomplish it...?

Hi @jpowell,

I suggest redirecting the user upon submitting in the report DataPage which will filter by the parameter. You may follow the steps below:

1. Create a submissions form
2. Set the redirection to report DataPage
3. Receive the parameter from the submission form in the Report DataPage
4. Enable the PDF download
5. Suggest setting the record to 1 on the Search and Report Wizard - Results Page Options

Hello, just want to add more information that may help, a new PDF download option is available for the details pages of Reports, Calendars, Combined Chart and Reports, Details and Pivot Table DataPages. The PDF configuration for details pages is similar to the existing options available on results pages.

Learn more about PDF reports generation.

Hi everyone! Just an update: Caspio has finally released a feature to show document generation, initially supporting custom PDF templates. You can upload your own fillable PDF file and map each field to a Caspio table.

It is available in R30 version: https://howto.caspio.com/release-notes/caspio-30-0/
