Can you make fields required in the table itself?

I'm wondering if there's a way to make fields required in the table itself. I understand how to do it on the submission form or the search page, but if someone is entering records directly into the table, it appears that there's no mechanism there. Please tell me I'm wrong!

Ah yes, it doesn't look like there is a function for that. 

My idea is to set the field as unique and leaving the 'Accept Blank Value' unchecked, making the field required to be filled out but It also makes the field unique so duplicate records wont be applicable.

You can also try creating a formula like this:

1/
case 
when [@field:Connector] = '' 
then 0 else 1
end

With this, if the field connector is blank, the division by 0 error will be raised
