Remove Dropdown Field Options Based On Previous Input

I have a datapage with a data submit form that has values to select from in a dropdown. When the user submits the form, the same datapage loads and refreshes a child datapage in the footer which shows the completed entries. I would like to make the dropdown from the main form update to where they cannot select the same value from the dropdown when entering in additional data. Is there a way to achieve this?

Or is it possible to check a tabular report for repeat value in a column and display a user message?

I was able to achieve this by using a view. The view takes data previously entered by user and existing dropdown list data and only shows blanks, and I used the View to control the dropdown menu.
